Children are divided into groups by ages with the curriculum relative to the age group. Each group is given a name in the life cycle of a butterfly, our school mascot. Children start as eggs (infants), growing through the caterpillar stage (toddlers) the cocoon state (3-year olds), and finally become butterflies (4-year olds).
Eggs
Eggs (infants) are provided a warm and responsive environment that is also stimulating as your child is growing and developing.
Caterpillars
Caterpillars (13 months - 2 years) are beginning to think through their actions, solve problems, and use language skills. We provide an environment that will spark your toddler's sense of discovery and well being. The classes are colorful and provide a wide variety of toys and educational materials. We use activities such as music, finger plays, story times, and nursery rhymes to help your child expand his/her language skills. The children pray as a group each morning before we begin our daily routine. We also encourage potty training and work with parents to help your child master this skill as soon as he/she is ready.
Cocoons
Cocoons (3-year olds) are in a class that is an enriched learning environment. It is designed to delight, intrigue and inspire young learners. Throughout the day they participate in different learning centers. They are learning language skills, handwriting and other fine motor skills, basic number skills, reading skills with phonics, and creative thinking through arts and crafts. Music plays a big role in our daily activities. We build awareness by listening to different types of music. We experience freedom of body movements and learn to follow directions. We memorize songs which encourages good reading skills. We emphasize enjoyment and participation in learning.
Butterflies
Butterflies (Older 3 & 4-year olds). In addition to the skills mastered in the 3-year old class, Butterflies are introduced to more advanced reading, math and handwriting skills. Phonics will include beginning and ending letter sounds along with introduction to vowels and consonant blends. The children's number skills will advance to simple addition by the end of the school year. They will participate in many hands-on science activities throughout the year.
The Butterfly class receives bible Study twice a week from a program published by A Beka Christian Books. There is no religion taught in this study, only stories from the bible; Genisis to the Resurection of Jesus Christ. The stories are very easy for the children to comprehend. We have all been told MANY times over the years that this is the children's favorite part of school.
What a Blessing.
The culmination of the school year for Butterflies is the cap and gown graduation held in May. This ceremony recognizes their accomplishments for the year, while signifying to them that another area of their learning experience is about to begin.
It is imperative to remember that all children learn and develop at their own pace. We believe that in providing a caring environment enriched in learning that the children will enjoy school and will be naturally motivated and willing to learn.
